FISHING NET FOUND ON BEACH

A fishing net, which was washed up on the beach at Woodend yesterday morning, is suspected to be that which Mr S. S. Roberts, of 62 Patten street. Avonside, was using when he was swept out to sea in a flat-bottomed boat at the mouth of the Waimakariri river on April 24. Investigations by the police showed that a piece of rope attached to the net corresponded with the rope held from the shore while Mr Roberts was fishing near the river mouth.. This rope broke when efforts were being made to prevent the boat being washed out to sea. The net was found by Mr F. Fowler, of Kaiapoi. No trace has been found of Mr Roberts. who is presumed to have been drowned.
