FARMS FOR SOLDIERS
Sir,—Why has the Government gone back on its promise to assist returned soldiers to buy farms? My husband volunteered for overseas service. After final leave he was rushed to hospital for an operation, then kept in New Zealand for several months, and then sent to an island in the Pacific. As a result, his health suffered so much he was invalided home. We inquired about a Government loan for a farm arid were told that the Government was only assisting men who have served in the Middle East. Is this fair? Once a man is in the Army, he serves where he is sent. Why penalise him afterwards? We have both had long experience on farms and our family are old enough to be of great help. We, like others, want a chance to build a future for ourselves, to be independent, and assist the war effort by helping to produce the food which the Army must have, if we are to win the war.—Yours, etc VOLUNTEER’S WIPE. March 31. 1943.
