DECISIONS OP NO. 1 BOARD

Appeals for freezing workers occupied most of the sitting of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. Permanent employees were granted adjournments sine die, and seasonal workers were directed to undergo military training between July and November. The board comprised Messrs E. A. Lee (chairman), G. DECISIONS OF NO. 2 BOARD An appeal for the, release of a soldier, R. W. J. Pidgeon, who was formerly employed as an- assistant on a cooling system for an orchard storeroom, was heard by the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday, when Mr J. S. Barnett presided. S. E. Sisson, appealing for Pidgeon’s release, said that the cooling system had to be operated by a skilled assistant. In warm weather it was often necessary to keep «the cooling system, going 24 hours a day.

The board recommended that Pidgeon be released for three months. A Christchurch Training College student, E. V. Britton, appealed for release from the Army until October 31, In order to study for his C grade teacher’s certificate. Unless he obtained this certificate, he said, he would not be able to apply for & position. The board decided, as this was the first case of its kind to come before it, to ascertain what will be the Education Department’s policy when such men return from the war.
