TAXI LICENCE APPEAL
APPLICATION TO BE REHEARD The application of Mr J. T. York for a taxi licence has been referred hack to the Christchurch Metropolitan -Licensing-Authority for a rehearing by the appeal authority (Sir Francis Frazer). The licence was granted'by the authority on December 18, and an appeal was made by Blue Star Taxis, Incorporated. Sir Francis Frazer pointed out that a previous appeal against a similar decision was allowed on October 16, and said it was undesirable that a position should arise in which a succession of applications and appeals was made in respect of the same subject matter without any evidence of altered conditions.
Sir Francis Frazer said that the file contained no record of evidence indicating that the requirements of section 26 of the act had been complied with. He considered that before granting a new licence an authority should require cogent evidence that existing licences were insufficient to give a reasonable war-time service.
