SOCIAL SECURITY FEES
2ND N.Z.E.F. PENSIONERS NOT EXEMPT Men of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force on a total disability pension were not exempt from payment of the quarterly social security registration fee, said the secretary of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association (Mr E. F. Willcox) at a meeting of the executive committee last evening. Mr Willcox said he had made inquiries, and had found that exemption was granted only to men who had served in the last war. Men who had served in the present war were not granted exemption unless they could prove hardship.
Mr Willcox added that he had written to Dominion headquarters of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association and had received a reply that the matter had been referred to the proper authorities. Since then nothing had been done. There should not be any differentiation between men of the last war and men of this war. The committee decided to ask Dominion Headquarters to secure the exemption from payment of present war full pensioners.
