“X Aussie” asks: “Will the dairy companies keep back until the end of the season the increase in wages granted recently to their Jorry drivers as they are doing with the increase of id per lb butter-fat granted by the Government to the dairy farmers?”
“2 E.F.” complains of poor reception of British Broadcasting Corporation news. He asks: “Could, not one person at the station decipher the message, have it taken down in shorthand, and allow it U be broadcast clearly?”
“Astonished” writes: “Returning to Christchurch after years of absence, two things strike me most forcibly—the beauty of our trees and flowers and the appalling odour in our telephone boxes owing to the lack of public conveniences."
H. J. Buttle (Darfield) writes: “The Arbitration Court should be capable of deciding the price of wool and other primary products. The question of farmers’ remuneration would then rise above the present sinister or sentimental fog and farmers might expect some relief from the doubtful benevolence of their friends and leaders.”
N. M. Bell reports the case of some boys, aged six to 10 years, throwing black crayfish taken from the Avon against a tree and stamping on them. When remonstrated with, the boys merely laughed.
“A.M.S.” takes exception to the pronunciation not only by i some radio announcers but also by “many of pur parliamentarians” of New Zealand as "New Zilland.” "In fact, some even improve on this and render it as ‘Noo Zilland'.”
