OFFENSIVE IN PACIFIC
DR. VAN DER PLAAS IN AUSTRALIA
CANBERRA, Jan. 16,
“Preparations for an offensive against the Japanese in the south-west Pacific should be pushed ahead without delay,” declared the Netherlands East Indies Commissioner in Australia and New Zealand (Dr. Charles van der Plaas). “Time, which has previously worked for the Allies in the Pacific war, now works against us as the Japanese entrench themselves round their conquered territories.” Dr. van der Plaas strongly supported the appeal by the Australian Prime Minister (Mr Curtin) for a greater share in the United Nations’ resources to prosecute the war in the south-west Pacific.
