DOMINION TAILORING TRADE
POSITION DESCRIBED AS GRAVE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 13. A representative cross-section of the Auckland woollen goods, wholesalers, and tailoring establishments, states the position of the tailoring industry is as grave as in Britain as a result of the closing down on the export of woollen goods. New Zealand mills arc manufacturing almost wholly for the military. Already some small tailors are out of business and others complain that their stocks are dwindling, and predict more closings within a few months if the import position docs not improve.
One wholesaler, with Dominionwide branches, said that a small shipment which recently arrived was ordered in 1941 and might be the last unt.l after the war.
