Yesterday in Victoria square members of the women's auxiliary of the Returned Services’ Association held a sale of cakes, produce, and gifts in aid of the association’s benevolent fund. Nearly £25 was taken. Within the last few weeks, representatives of the suburban auxiliaries—Spreydon, Sydenham, Riccarton, and Linwood—have joined the central auxiliary. At the December meeting of the North Christchurch Garden Club, held at the home of Mrs B. O. Moore, Julius terrace, the hostesses were Mesdames Shanahan. Taylor, J. Banks, Adam, and Hammcrslcy. The members of the St. MartinsOpawa Garden Club met at the Linwood nurseries for the December meeting, when Mr M. J. Barnett conducted them on a tour of the gardens. Mrs J. T. Norton, who has retired from the presidency of the Lyttelton Junior Guild of the British Sailors’Society, was entertained on Thursday night bv members of the guild. At the instance of the American Red Cross, an appeal is to be made by the Auckland Provincial Council of the Joint Committee of the Order of St. John and New Zealand Red Cross Society for gifts of men's clothing for survivors of action in combat areas who have lost their gear. A sub-com-mittee has been set up to undertake the arrangements throughout the provincial districts. Miss Elsie K. Lord and Lady Astor wish that in the future, if their family does not wish to remain as tenants, the house should be used for furthering international understanding and other causes which they have at heart.
