MARKETING OF HONEY

MINISTER EXPLAINS NEW REGULATIONS

(P A.) WELLINGTON,. December 10,

With the principal object of ensuring that this season’s honey crop will be apportioned as accurately as possible between established priorities and the requirements of the public, new honey regulations were gazetted to-night. The Minister of Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) explained that the priorities were hospitals and invalids, prisoner of war parcels, and the armed forces.

When those essential requirements .tad been met, the Minister said, it was the Government’s intention that the rest of the crop should as far as practicable be evenly distributed for the benefit of the public. The new regulations provided that all sales of honey would be subject to the supervision of the Internal Marketing Division, which was given authority to purchase any percentage of a producer’s crop, and at the same time direct the channels through which the remainder might be sold. The regulations did not impose any restrictions on sales direct to consumers up to a maximum amount of 601b for each sale, provided the actual delivery was taken by the purchaser at the apiary where the honey was produced.
