WATERSIDE WORKER IMPRISONED
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 24. "Thefts of cargo must be regarded as a grave matter these days,” said Mr J. Morling, S.M., in sentencing a waterside worker, Harold Beggs, to three weeks’ imprisonment for stealing a tin of salmon, valued at Is 9d, the property of the United States Government. Beggs said that he had given way to temptation when he saw a number of tins rolling round in a wharf shed. The Magistrate said he had no doubt that the majority of men working on the wharves were good and honest but those like Beggs brought them into disrepute. _______________
