An Ashburton Classic The Ashburton Trotting Cup to be run on Boxing Day will be worth £620, and, run over a mile and a half, is for 3mln 21sec class horses. On the same day there will be decided the New Zealand Champion Stakes, of a mile and a half, for three-year-olds. This race will provide another great test for Juvenile pacers, and a race that may confirm the form shown in the New Zealand Derby. Up till the beginning of this month Captain Morant was regarded as the best three-year-old in New Zealand, but Scottish Lady’s success in. the Rlccarton Stakes and the New Zealand Derby, in which she beat Captain Morant, has left the question of three-year-old supremacy in doubt. Gore Trotting Club The programme for the Gore Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day provides for only seven events, but with a provision that the Trial Handicap, 3mln 43sec class, shall be run in divisions, each division being treated as a separate race. The Gore Club Is evidently expecting a big nomination of maiden pacers, of which there is a big number in Southland. The principal event, the Gore Cup. is worth £350, and is for horses that can do 4min 46sec or better, Oam of Indianapolis Estella Amos, the dam of Indianapolis, was sent to Tasmania some time ago. and recently foaled a chestnut colt to Clever Guy. American-bred The Ameiican-bred stallion, Starwyn, who proved a costly failure when raced in New Zealand, won recently in Australia over a mile and a hall in 3min 16iscc,
