An Excellent Card A feature of the acceptances received yesterday for the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s spring meeting next Saturday was that there were no defections from the list for the New Zealand Cup, and there Is eyery Indication that the 20 horses to be carded will all go to the post. The withdrawals from the Stewards’ Handicap Included Dominate and Nizam, who are both to contest the New Zealand Derby. Another in Rawhamai is engaged in the Rlccarton Handicap, and Indian Sign, Deolall and Celebrity, the remaining defections, will not be at the meeting. The 48 horses handicapped for the Apprentices’ Handicap, were reduced to 28, and two divisions will fortunately not be necessary Boloyna, The Raker, Southern Sail, Atreus, Enloglst, Don Quex, and Kevin, with- 1 drawn from the Riccarton Handicap, are all In the Cup. There were no further payments for the Welcome Stakes and Derby, and strong fields are promised for both classics. A Cup Bracket Gladynev has been sold to Messrs J. and L. McMillan, owners also of Don Quex, and these horses will now be bracketed on the totalisator. G. New will arrive with the pair this morning. A Hastings Juvenile Marram, engaged in the Spring Nursery at Riccarton on Saturday, is a bay filly by Gynerium from La Moderne, dam of Gayest Son, and, like the latter, is owned by her breeder, Mr A. F. Symes, of Hastings. She has had three races to date, being unplaced in each.
