For the rest he sees a busy, cheerful folk in the field and the market, engrossed in performances of native music or drama, or celebrating their elaborate rites of marriage or funeral. Social organisation, based on the responsibilities of common land ownership, is well treated; so are native crafts, religion and “magic,” and the care of gardens and plantations.
