SURPLUS CANADIAN GRAIN
ALLEGED DUMPING IN U.S. CHICAGO, Nov. 20. The President of the Chicago Board of Trade (Mr Philip O’Brien) made a charge yesterday that Mr Roosevelt and the Canadian Prime Minister (Mr W. L. Mackenzie King) have arranged to dump 300,000,000 bushels of surplus Canadian grain on the United States markets. Mr O’Brien said that the deal was arranged last summer at Mr Roosevelt’s request. The war-time suspension of tariffs was intended to facilitate the marketing of Canadian oats, barley, and other grains in the United States. Mr O’Brien called on farmers to protest, as the proposed import would intensify the already critical grain storage situation.
