'■* CANTERBURY CENTRE OPENS SEASON The opening meeting of the Canterbury x Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Association’s season at Rugby Park on Saturday was marked by first-class contests and sevbral outstanding performances by young runners. Pupils of secondary schools competed, and promising form was shown by the middle-distance runners, Craighead, of Boys’ High School, and Oakley, of Technical College, while Taylor, a sprinter, repeated the good form he showed in the inter-secondary schools’ championship a few weeks ago. Seven clubs were represented as follows, abbreviations in the report being given in parenthesis;— Army (A.), Air Force (A.F.).
