CONTINUOUS FIRE WATCHING
Sir—l have been for more than a year a member of the commercial fire service attached to one of our large manufacturing firms, which has large commitments on order for the Government. We were actually in existence, an efficient and organised fire service body, when the present E.P.S. committee was in its infancy and before the Minister (the Hon. D. Wilson) succeeded to his present position. We had our rosters, squad gangs’ drill, and fire service working like clockwork. Eacn man was. timed from when he left home till he arrived at his post, we found that each member could be on duty within 15 minutes. _ Now, I am not concerned whether regional control is necessary or not; nor am I concerned whether the present E.P.S. committee should go out of business or not, but what I do know is that continuous fire watching is absolutely ridiculous, stupid, and just a glorious waste of time in relation to our firewatching s cheme -- Yours g^ ATES .
