GERMAN U-BOAT BASE RAIDED
U.S. BOMBERS ATTACK ST. NAZAIRE LONDON, Nov. 17. Continuing the war against U-boats, American and British aircraft yesterday carried out a raid on the German U-boat base at St. Nazaire. Flying Fortresses and Liberators made up the bombing force, and they were safely escorted there and back by Royal Air Force fighters. How well these fighters did their job is indicated by the shooting down of six enemy fighters which tried to interfere. No Allied aircraft were lost. Other British aircraft were out on offensive patrols over the Low Countries to-day. They attacked grounded aircraft, freight trains, and barges, and set a large storage tank on fire. All the aircraft returned safely.
