SOLDIERS ADMIT CHARGES
TWO COURTS-MARTIAL
DESERTION IN ONE CASE Two soldiers pleaded guilty respectively to charges of desertion and absence without leave when they were charged before courts-martial at a district camp yesterday. Private James Solomon Case (Dr. A. L. Haslam) admitted being absent without leave from September 12, 1941, until he surrendered himself at King Edward Barracks, Christchurch, op August 24, 1942, when wearing civilian clothes. Private Thomas Eugene Shannahan (Dr. A. L. Haslam) admitted desertion at Springfield on April 2, 1941, and that he absented himself without leave until he was arrested, when wearing civilian clothes, by the civil police at Huntly on August 25, 1942. The decisions of the court will be announced later. The courts were Major J. M. Gillies (president), Major J. J. McCall, D.C.M., and Second-Lieuten-ant S. R. Cuming. Major G. T. Weston was the judge advocate.
