PATRIOTIC FUNDS
REVISED SYSTEM OF COLLECTION
PROPOSALS MADE IN DUNEDIN (P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 21. Important proposals regarding the collecting of patriotic funds were considered at a meeting of the DunedinSt. Kilda sub-zone committee of the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council this morning. The proposals will be forwarded to the committee of the metropolitan zone, which will meet on Thursday, and if approved will then go before the Qtago Provincial Patriotic Council, They are as follows: “That the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council be asked to recommend to the National Patriotic Fund Board and/or the Government, that the present system of collecting patriotic funds be revised, and the following system brought into operation: • "(a) That moneys collected by patriotic councils carry a Government subsidy of £1 for £l. This would lighten the load for district patriotic committees and at the same time provide an incentive for patriotic effort.
"(b) That the Government be requested to exempt from income, social security, and national security taxes all donations over £IOO, whether given by trading concerns or individuals. "(c) That before the end of December. 1942, a statement of policy be issued setting out the manner in which patriotic funds are to be collected during 1943.” The meeting approved of the proposals.
