FREE TRAVELLING WARRANTS
SOLDIERS ON LEAVE IN CIVIL EMPLOYMENT
(0.R.) GREYMOUTH, Sept. 20. Conditions under which free travelling warrants will be issued to soldiers granted leave to re-enter important civil employment are given by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) in a letter received by Mr J. O’Brien, M.P. "In regard to the question of fares,’” Mr Jones stated. “I would point out that arrangements have recently been made which permit of men who are granted leave on the recommendation of the National Service Department or an appeal board on the grounds of public interest (for reasons connected with their employment), whether on their own application or on that of an employer, to be issued with free travelling warrants to the place where they are to be employed. If such leave is for a period of more than 28 days, or for an indefinite period, single warrants will be issued. I think, therefore, in the circumstances, that the position is being adequately met and any hardship which may have previously obtained should now be eliminated.”
