APPLICATION FOR TYRES
POSITION OF SHEARERS REPRESENTATION TO BE MADE TO GOVERNMENT “As you know we are asked for more production, but we have not got anywhere about tyres for shearers.” said Mr A. P. Bruce, at a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers’■ Onion, yesterday. He mentioned the case of one shearer who had made several unsuccessful endeavours to obtain two new tyres for his car so that he could carry on with shearing and crutching for a number of farmers. Mr Bruce said thaj a member of the rationing committee at Christchurch had stated that the man referred to had only to apply and tyres would be available for his work. When the man applied, however, his application was declined, and the Oil Fuel Controller at Christchurch (Mr V. C. Lawn) advised him that tyres could not be made available because shearing was not on the priority list for tyres. “It is a lot of humbugging about,” said Mr B v uce, He moved that the union get in touch with the Dominion executive asking it to approach the Government about the matter. The motion was carried.
