DAFFODIL DAY APPEAL That arrangements are well in hand for Daffodil Day street collection, the annual public appeal for the Free Kindergartens. of Christchurch and suburbs, was reported at the last meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, at which Mrs E. Hitchcock presided. The principal reported that the average roll number at the kindergar* tens for the winter months was 462, that the Belfast Kindergarten had reopened with 16 pupils under the direction of Miss Keltic, and that Miss Janet Birdling had begun her duties as director of the Sunbeam Kindergarten It was also reported that volunteer workers of the Mothers’ Committee at Redcliffs and at Riccarton had made possible the opening of schools in the sffternoon for children on the waiting list. Woolston has also started afternoon school. Two new assistants Miss Lois Williams and Miss Gertrude Mather, had commenced their duties, and Miss Ruth Sincock had applied for enrolment as a stu-dent-in-training next year. A gift of books suitable for kindergarten work was received from Miss Whitcombe. It was reported that health examinations had taken place at the kindergartens and that the second group of Karitane nurses would soon begin their observation period.
BIBLE SOCIETY The annual meeting of the St. Alban's branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held at the home of the vice-president Mrs G. tt. Watts, Brown’s toad Mr J H Twentyman, organising secretary of the society, presided, and an address was given by the Rev. W. H. Orbell. It was reported that this year's collections for the branch amounted to £B3 16s 3d. an increase on last_yeaFs_efforU__
