CANTERBURY BEATS SOUTH CANTERBURY

A Canterbury representative team selected from senior reserve players beat South Canterbury on Saturday in an even game, in which Canterbury showed better ball control. J. Pierce opened' Canterbury’s score in the first few minutes and Canterbury’s next goal came from A. Drake, who took the ball from half-way and scored off a rebound from the goalkeeper’s pads. The Canterbury forwards were well supported by their halves and attacked persistently, but the South Canterbury backs were solid. E, Loomes was playing a good defensive game. Both goalkeepers were playing very well at this stage. The second half began with each set of forwards endeavouring to break through, but the defence was good. J. Gold, the Canterbury captain, and a reliable centre-half, supported her forwards well, but their shooting was inaccurate. M. Stewart, South Canterbury’s captain, opened her side’s score with a good clean shot direct from a centre from the right. Z. Martin led several good attacks for Canterbury, but her centres could have been earlier. From one-of these D. Falkner netted. During a scramble In the circle a penalty bully resulted, which D.
