CHURCH’S DEFIANCE OF QUISLING

RECALCITRANT CLERGY IN NORWAY

STOCKHOLM, August 14,

The Norwegian clergy’s defiance has forced Quisling’s Church Department to mark time. The department announces that it does not propose to enthrone more bishops. This follows. the clergy’s reaction when two of Quisling’s bishops replaced dethroned anti-Quisling bishoos. The department also announces that the police have been instructed to confiscate robes from dismissed clergymen, but it adds that the police have been told not to arrest clergy offering resistance. The Stockholm correspondent of "The Times’’ states that the Church Department’s attitude, is inspired by the hope that negotiations with the recalcitrant clergy will become possible at a favourable moment.
