STUDHOLME-WAIMATE BUS

Sir*—l travelled to Waimate recently and the train was met at Studholme Junction by the railway bus, which took us to Waimate, five miles distant. At the same time the Waimate train was standing at Studholme station waiting for any goods. Why not place a carriage on the train and save Tuning the bus? I believe the train runs twice daily to Studholme, and the bus about four times;..then -the train generally stands at the Waimate station yard blowing off steam. Some days it goes- to the Downs. On the return journey all the seats were full and about 14 people had to stand to Studholme. —Yours, etc., TRAVELLER. July 27, 1942. [The railway bus manager at Dunedin states that the bus is run for the convenience of passengers and school children, and to eliminate delays which would be unavoidable if a carriage was attached to the goods train. The train is required to do a lot of shunting before it leaves Studholme, and the bus arrives in Waimate before the train leaves the Junction.]
