MARKETING OF PETROL

POSITION IN DULLER DISTRICT

(PA) WESTPORT, August 13. Buffer transport operators, storage depot agents and petrol resellers interviewed the Commissioner of Transport (Mr G L Laurenson) about themarketing of petrol in this district. The oil companies recently notified resellers that their depots in Westport would be closed down as from August 27. ana it would then be necessary for them to purchase petrol at the main centres, and make their own arrangements lor transporting tHeir supplies to Westport. Mr Laurenson said the oil companies would not be allowed to adopt that attitude; they would be required to market petrol in Westport as m the past, unless the present storage depot agents formed a company of their own to undertake the marketing and distribution of petrol in the district. Mr Laurenson said the present method of transporting petrol by road to Westport would have to cease because of the necessity of conserving rubber and petrol. The Automobile Association made an effort to make representations regarding the high price of petrol in mis district, as compared with other parts of New- Zealand, but failed to make contact with the Minister.
