TROTTING NOTES

Improving Trotters Commencing his racing career as a promising young pacer, Ordnance was later converted to the trotting gait, and in his only two starts during the last season he was successful. He will have a chance to add to his record at the Forbury Park meeting on August 22, for in a weak class in the Army Handicap he figures on the limit. The greatest opposition may come from the well-bred Tall Timber, by Gallant Knight—Escapade. Tall Timber has started several times and had shown such good form in his early efforts that he was taken to Auckland for the summer meeting, at which he won. Some of his later displays have been disappointing, but it he can be induced to trot steadily he may make a race of it with Ordnance. Sea Max on 48 vards behind, is by Maxegin from Seamist, and is regarded as one of the best trotters in Southland. She is at least consistent, for in eight starts last season she was only once out of a place. Azim, by Real Guy—Nourmahal, came into prominence when he won the Longbeach Handicap at Ashburton on June 1, defeating ‘a big field over a mile and a half in 3min 35 2-ssec. A Forbury Park Prospect At the Patriotic Meeting held at Addington Mahoe was not favoured with the best of luck in the running, but once on the journey he showed a lot of speed. Though he may be temperamental, Mahoe is a fast pacer, and may have to bo reckoned with in the Roosevelt Handicap at Forbury Park. Safety Pin and Great Waitaki may prove to be his strongest opponents.
