SCHOOLS’ SWIMMING SPORTS The annual swimming sports of the Lyttelton Main School were held at Corsair Bay. Distance certificates were awarded as follows:—2S yards; Billy Beecroft. Joan Beecroft, Gwen Guy, Julie Dempsey. Geoffrey Good. 50 yards: Norma Cornish, Lona Anderson. Ngaire Field, Andrew Guy. Frank Barbour, Maurice Beecroft’, Peter Mitchell. Jack Melville, Colin Burns. Gerald Landers. Ralph Fife (75). 220 yards: Avis Cushin, Norah McCormick, Norah Galbraith. Bruce Carr Greater -distances: George McLaughlin (300 yards), Shirley Miller (350 yards), Doanld Stewart (400 yards). Daphne Morton. Gyneth Williams. Neil McCormick, Albert Fenton, Maurice Garner (6CO yards), James Anderson (700 yards). Margaret Taylor, Jessraai Manihera, Audrey Norris, Peter Harkness (900 yards), Barry Hollis (1200 yards). Laurence Wales, Jack Hemsley (2000 yards). Results of the Herbert Smith Cup races were:—Boys: J. Anderson 1, J. Hemsley 2, H. Hardwick 3. Girls: Audrey Norris 1. Shirley Miller 2. Laurel Sinclair 3. The girls’ diving competition was won by Daphne Morton, with Shirley Miller second. The result of the boys’ diving was: A. Fenton 1, J. Hemsley 2, B. Hollis 3.
