♦ Mr T P. Fotheringham, inspector in charge cf the New Zealand division of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., is on an official visit to Christchurch. Mr C C. Lange, of Invercargill, and Mr C. O. McKeown, of Orcpuki, will attend a conference of New Zealand master, bakers and pastrycooks in Christchurch on Wednesday. Mr J. B. Humphrey, of Tainui, Dunedin has received advice that his brother. Mr Harold Humphrey, has been killed, as the result of an air raid at Darwin while serving on an Australian hospital ship. Private advice has been received that Captain C. R. Cameron, formerly of Dunedin and now with the Middle East forces, has been promoted to the rank of major. During the last war Major Cameron was a lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade and served in France, He is a brother of Messrs W. K., A. C., and S. P. Cameron, of Dunedin, all of whom saw service in the last war. A sister, now Mrs C. L. Purdie, also served with the New Zealand Division overseas. Major Cameron’s wife and two sons are living in Dunedin. Cabled advice has been received intimating that Flight Lieutenant L. G. Lilly, R.A.F.. has reached Karachi from Java. Mr A. G. Williams, who has been headmaster of the Burwood School, Christchurch, has received notice of his appointment to the headmastership of the Nightcaps District High School, Southland, and. will take up duty there on April 8. Commissioner J. Evan Smith, the leader in New Zealand of the Salvation Army, and Mrs Smith, will leave for Wellington this evening, accompanied by Colonel W. A. Ebbs, the chief secretary.
