SWIMMING
* DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD Diving of a high order was seen at the Tepid Bath on Friday night, when the concluding sections of the women’s, intermediate boys' and intermediate girls' provincial championships were held. During the evening Miss O, Hobson, provincial champion, made an attempt on the women’s 220 yards Canterbury record of 2min 52 l-ssec, held by Miss N. Hughes. Miss Hobson was one second outside the record time. Details were:—Women: Miss P. Briggs (holder) 1, Miss J. Bowman 2. Intermediate girls: Miss J, Baughan (the only competitor) 1. Intermediate boys: D. Dacombe 1, R. Travers 2. P. H. Bamford 3. YALDHURST SHIELD WON BY FENDALTON By obtaining more first places than did the Elmwood School representatives with whom they tied, Fendalton School swimmers won the Yaldhurst shield at an interschools carnival, held at the Tepid Bath on Friday evening. Both teams scored 35 points, and Fendalton were awarded the competition on Die count-back. RACES AT LYTTELTON The final swimming races of a scries were conducted by the Lyttelton Men ? Swimming Club and the Lyttelton Vlomen’s Club at Corsair Bay on Satu.dav in cold weather. Results;— Novelty Race, for Stanley trophy.—G Reed (46sec) 1. R. Duff (scr) 2, N. Richardson (42sec) 3. The competitors were required to swim from the bath to the staging in the middle of the bay, thence to tlie launch jetty, and back to the men’s bathing sheds. From there they had to dive from live springboard ana swim ’to the floating raft, finishing at l ie bead), a distance of approximately ..a" yards. There were seven competitors 33 1-3 Yards Handicap, Mixed.—vv. Rouse (9see) 1, C. Boyd (9sec) 2, R. Dull (scr) 3. Seven competitors. Mixed Dive, Handicap.—Bessie Boyd H points), 22 points. 1; R.
