RESERVISTS FAILED TO ENROL
(P.A.) NELSON, March 13. A reservist who failed to report for duty was sentenced in the Magistrate’s Court to imprisonment Jpr two months, to be followed by detention in a defaulters’ camp. The defendant, Manson Hyland, said lie was a Christian Pacifist, and refused to do any work under military control. The police said that the defendant had previously expressed willingness to do non-com-batant work. Another reservist, Thomas Charles Doherty, convicted of failure to enrol, was ordered to come up for sentence within three months if called on. The police explained that he was an Australian, and had written to the Army authorities earlier offering to undergo a medical examination.
