ISSUE OF TYRES AND TUBES
CARS ON E.P.S. WORK INELIGIBLE
New or second-hand tyres and tubes will apparently not be available for motor vehicles used on E.P.S. work by means of special coupons. This was stated yesterday at the Transport Department’s office, from which approval for the issue of tyres or tubes has had to be obtained since control measures were introduced.
Answering a question, the actingapproving officer said that several pri-vate-ear owners had inquired for tyres or tubes since petrol had again been made available by coupon this month, but the requests had been refused as issue was to be made only to essential users (a guide to essentiality often being the possession of an oil-fuel licence). Not even vehicles used on E.P.S. work by means only of special or other coupons would qualify lor tyres or tubes, he added.
