i_* The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) will inspect various defence works in Canterbury to-day and will return to Wellington on Monday night. Captain J. H. Gaskell, R.D., R.N.R.. Marine Superintendent of the Shaw Savill Line, left for the south yesterday morning. Mr L. A. Parlane, formerly clerk of the Magistrate’s Court in Te Kuiti, is now attached to the staff of the Wellington Magistrate’s Court. Wing Commander E. Carradus. Director of Educational Services for the Royal New Zealand Air Force, arrived by the steamer express from the north yesterday. Dr. H. G, Denham, rector of Canterbury University College, arrived at Christchurch yesterday from Wellington.
