ATTACKS ON AXIS SHIPS
SUBMARINES ACTIVE IN MEDITERRANEAN LONDON, January 13. An Admiralty communique states; “Submarines of the Mediterranean Fleet have inflicted further loss and damage upon the enemy. “An Italian minesweeper has been sunk by one of our submarines. The Italian supply ship Sirio (5222 tons) was torpedoed and seriously damaged. This ship was last seen in tow. and the enemy may have succeeded in getting her into harbour. “Another enemy supply ship of medium size was engaged by gunfire by one of our submarines. This ship was on fire and down by the stern when the action was broken off because of interference by enemy shore batteries.”
