PURCHASE OF RIFLES

Sir,—Regarding these weapons which the. Government is urgently requiring, a word in season here may save a good deal of time for both parties—buyer and seller. Yesterday I took my rifle to the barracks, a .22 automatic Winchester, but on handing, it to the examining officer, I was informed that owing to the fact that it fired only the special .22 automatic cartridges it was useless to the Government and the purchase of it was refused. Any other owner of such a firearm reading these lines may be saved a journey and a corresponding amount of time may be saved to the extremely busy and courteous examining officer.—Yours, etc., WILLING. January 14, 1942.
