LUNCHEON PARTY

Many visitors to Christchurch for Carnival Week were entertained at lunch by the chairman and stewards of the Canterbury Jockey Club on Saturday. CAMBRIAN ’ SOCIETY A large gathering of members attended the monthly meeting of the Cambrian Society, held on Saturday night in Hay’s Lounge, Mr J. G. Parry presiding. Guests included members of the Christchurch Country Dance Club, who, under the direction of Mr L. Bensemann, president, and Mr F. A. Shurrock, secretary, gave a varied programme of folk dances, and also played a selection of airs on homemade bamboo pipes, under the direction of Miss F. Akins. Other items were given by Mrs Collins (humorous recitations), Mrs A. Williams, and Miss Forsyth (vocal solos). Accompanists were Misses Bessie Pollard and F. Akins, and Mr J. G. Parry. Miss Carpenter presented the society with a wool rug lor the children's Christmas fund. A presentation was’ made to Mrs Parry for iter son, Mr Glyn Parry, who will be married soon.
