BLACK-OUT TRIAL PLANNED

METROPOLITAN AREA Preliminary arrangements are it : hand for a trial black-out in the : Christchurch metropolitan area, the ; Public Utilities Committee has report* • ed to the executive of the Emergency Precautions Services. The necessary ' arrangements, involving the co-ordina* : tion of a large number of local au* thorities, are being completed by the committee. The centralising, as far as practicable, of street lighting control has now been completed in the City proper, and ■ is either completed or in hand in the , • areas of adjoining local bodies. The : light and power committee has ex* . pressed the opinion that while the localised black-outs that have been arranged have been useful, a metropoli* . tan black-out is more essential as an Emergency Precautions Services re- . hearsal and would be of more value.
