LETTER FROM PRISON CAMP

AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER WRITES TO CHRISTCHURCH A letter from a German prison camp stating that he is safe and well has been received by Mrs C. Fowles, 307 Cashel street, Christchurch, from her husband, Private Clarence Fowles, who was taken prisoner in Crete, where he was attached to an A.I.F. postal unit. Private Fowles, who enlisted in Melbourne and went ■ overseas with the 6th Division of the A.1.F., took part in the campaign in Greece before being evacuated to Crete. The postal unit to which he was attached left its camp shortly before the arrival of the Germans, and made for the other side of the island. The letter was the first news received by Mrs Fowles from her husband for almost four months. He had previously been reported missing.
