CANADA’S WAR EFFORT
—* —- ADDRESS TO SOCIETY FOR IMPERIAL CULTURE An analysis of the contrasting elements in the social, political, and economic structure of Canada which were responsible for the disunity reflected in that country's share in the present world struggle, was given by Mr A. Clark at a meeting o? the Society for Imperial Culture on Saturday evening. Mr Clark is a geographer from Canada, at present attached to the staff of Canterbury University College. Drawing an analogy from the indecision of America about her part in the present war, Mr Clark outlined the national characteristics and sectional interests, which had never been resolved, and of the people living in the many states of both countries, with the consequent diversity of opinion. The reasons for criticism of Canada’s war effort Mr Clark attributed to the formidable difficulties of carrying on a stable and unified form of government amid the conflict of nationalities which were fostered and concentrated by historical development and economic and geographical conditions, A musical programme was presented during the evening. ■
