NEW RIFLE FOR NATIONAL MILITARY RESERVE
A special type of rifle, distinct from the ordinary service rifle, is t<? ‘tye issued shortly to members of thd 3rd Battalion of the National Military Reserve, it is' announced by Army Headquarters. The new rifle is known as the Pl 4. and it has several features which make for extra accuracy in shooting, including a barrel longer by about two inches than that of the service weapon, the Lee-Enfield short
magazine rifle, and an aperture sight. It Is regarded as a marksman s or sniper’s rifle, and it is considered that men who have had experience with rifles are more likely to get the best results fromit than are new recruits.
Painters Give Wages—Five thousand union 1 painters gave to-ddys wages, exceeding 50,000 dollars, to the Defend America Committee for use in the Stop Hitler Campaign. This is the first time in 20 years since they won the five-day week that union painters have worked on a Saturday.—New York, September 27.
