MONEY REMITTED TO SOLDIERS
COMPLAINT OF HIGH COST (P.R.) WELLINGTON, September 26. “Surely there is some less expensive way of getting money to our soldiers,” said Mr J. O’Brien (Government, Westland) in the House, in a note to a question addressed to the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones). Mr O’Brien asked if the Minister would make arrangements for money sent to soldiers abroad to be paid to them at the least possible expense. “At present,” he added, “25s sent by a father to his son is subject to the following charges:—Cost of cable ss, exchange 4s. This means that it costs 9s to get 16s to a soldier.’’
