SUMNER LIFE-SAVING CLUB
♦ The Mayor (Mr J. E. Tail) presided at the thirtieth annual meeting of the Sumner Surf and Life-Saving Club. The Mayor welcomed back the president (Mr S. K, Bassett), who has recovered from injuries received in an accident on the Franz Josef glacier. The treasurer's report showed that the club had had a good year, mainly due to the activities of the' junior members in arranging collections and functions. It was decided to send Christmas parcels to members serving with the forces overseas. The Mayor outlined the Borough Council’s proposals for the improved beach facilities and it was unanimously decided that the club give its support to the scheme. Opening day was set for December 7.
