HOSPITAL KITCHEN WORKERS

Following reports to the North Canterbury Hospital Board that it is difficult to And adequately trained women to take charge of hospital kitchen departments, Mrs J. G. L. Vernon, Centre Commandant of the Red Cross Voluntary Aid Department, has called a special meeting of qualified women willing to help in filling the shortage of these workers. An appeal has been made to all women who have passed one or more first aid or home nursing examinations, and those who, not wishing to be nursing V.A.D.’s, are willing to train as hospital cooks, to, attend this meeting. Christchurch Man’s Petition.—Most favourable .consideration by the Government of the petition of E. Orchard, of Christchurch, city inspector, was recommended by the Lands Committee in its report to the House of Representatives.
