CONDEMNED State Medical Monopoly Scheme is 111-founded and Inefficient! 'JpHE State Medical Monopoly Scheme forces a revolutionary and socialistic change upon the profession, and this change is being forced through NOW while 30% of the medical profession are away serving their King and Country overseas in the Empire’s titanic battle for Freedom and the right to live as we wish. The Government appear to have taken advantage of this situation to force their scheme on to both the Doctors and the public of New Zealand. The terms and conditions of the Stale Medical Monopoly Scheme are such that the present Government would not dare nor wish to impose on the weakest and least important Trade Union in New Zealand. The State Medical Monopoly Scheme is a grave and urgent threat to the health of the public of New Zealand, because it clearly emphasises mass production methods in giving medical attention to the people—a practice that the profession condemns wholeheartedly and unreservedly, and will not be a party to under any circumstances. The profession maintains that a medical man has an imperative right under the Law to be allowed to earn a living in his own way. This has always been one of the fundamental features of British Law. As a citizen in a free country a doctor should be at liberty to employ his skill, knowledge and ability in whatever way he thinks best, but with a proper regard to the best interests of the health of all the people. The State Medical Monopoly Scheme denies this privilege to the medical profession, but, worse than that, asks doctors to carry out a scheme that is fundamentally unsound, inefficient, and will not give the public a safe and reliable medical service. A non-political Commission of persons fully qualified to deal with the scientific, economic, financial and social questions involved be set up to inquire into the health services of New Zealand and submit a report on which sound legislation may be based and which would thoroughly safeguard the health of the people of New Zealand. Support the Medical Profession in their Telegraph or write the Member of Parliament for your district voicing your strong protest against the State Medical Monopoly Scheme. THE MEDICAL PROFESSION ASKS THAT: fight for Social Justice and a sound , efficient Medical Service for the People 1
