Sir,—Your correspondent,, R. Jones,, has now disclosed his true colours, having hilled himself with the Labour Government’s stone age system, which caused the slump. Listen to what his Engllsh.brother has to say. Mr Tom Johnston,. Lord Privy Seal in the Labour Government of 1931, wrote! “A British Cabinet waited one black Sunday afternoon in a Downing street garden for a final , decision from the Reserve Bank of New York. They wanted a cut in unemployment benefit. We declined absolutely and resigned.” This is the very system which is practised throughout the world, and Mr Jones says the Labour Government has adopted it. What a grim contrast with Labour’s British friends. ’,, , Mr Jones infers that I should supply homes at low rentals. May I suggest he tenders his advice to the Minister for Finance? In New 1 Zealand every child is born with a tax burden of about £3O a year. Surely that is sufficient without taxing their wages 2s in the £ at the age of 16. It matters not . which occupies the • Treasury benches as they both stand for tax slavery. The national debt has increased 680 per cent, in the 1 last 28 years. During the last six years it has increased at an alarming rate and is probably the reason why the Citizens’'Association does not ally itself-to any political party. Mr Jones is evidently hurt because he is not in the position to inflict a heavier burden of rates and taxes on the people.— YOVTS, etc., F wanay. August 21, 1941. [R Jones, if he wishes, may briefly reply, otherwise this correspondence is closed. —E(L, "The Press.’ ]
