YOUNG FARMERS’ DEBATE
* METHVEN WINS PROVINCIAL CONTEST
Supporting the negative side of the subject “That New Zealand's future depends on the extensive development of her secondary industries, ’’ the Methven Club, representing the Mid-Can-terbury district, won the Canterbury inter-district Young Farmers’ Club debate at Ashburton last evening. Speaking against Waihaorunga (South Canterbury), the Methven team (Messrs R. Penny, R. Wightman, and A. McKay) were awarded 247 points while the opposing team obtained 246 points. The Darfleld Club, representing North Canterbury, and Cannington Club (South Canterbury) also took part. The judge was Mr E. J. Wood, of Ashburton. The Methven team will probably compete in a debate with the winning team of the Otago inter-district competition.
