GYMNASIUM WANTED
BURNHAM camp PROPOSAL
LACK OF RECREATION FACILITIES
The Government and the National Patriotic Fund Board have been approached with a request that a gymnasium and recreation rooms be built at Burnham Military Camp. It is stated that-apart from the Young Mens Christian Association, the soldiers at the camp have no recreation rooms which can be used regularly. The plans for the. three blocks which have been built at Burnham provided for a recreation room in each, but from the beginning it was‘found necessary to use those rooms for other purposes —one a territorial pay office, ■ another as quarters for the camp band, and, the other as a signals instruction room, Mess rooms are occasionally used for boxing and other recreations, but this is seldom possible in wet weather, and Is hot regarded as a satisfactoy solution of the difficulty. The proposal is that a gymnasium, with several recreation rooms attached, should be built at the'eamp. It would be available both for organised physical training and for use by the many athletes .and sportsmen who pass through the camp. The lack of such facilities in a camp holding up to 6000 men is stated to have been felt very keenly. ' .
