STOCK EXCHANGES MARKETS GENERALLY FIRM Markets generally continued firm on call yesterday and there was an increased volume of recorded business. A late sale of War Loan (1953) on Tuesday was reported at £B6 15s. National Development Loan, 3i per cent., due 1956-59, rose to £IOO ss, and there were further buyers at that price, sellers at £lOl 10s.

Buyers’ offers for New’Zealand Insurance and South British Insurance revealed firmer markets. Dalgety and Company were firm at £6 ss. Sellers of Ballins Breweries (15s paid) reduced their limits to 11s 9d, buyers at 11s 3d. New Zealand Breweries were firmer on buyers’ offers 33s lOd. A late sale of Broken Hill Proprietary on Tuesday was reported at the unaltered price of 42s 6d, and dealings to-day were at that figure, market closing 41s 9d buyers, 42s 6d sellers. Buyers of British Tobacco moved up to 45s 3d. Colonial Sugar were stronger, with buyers at £55. D.I.C. (preference) advanced to 24s 6d. Electrolytic Zinc (preference) remained unaltered at 555, and there were further buyers at that figure, sellers at 565. Wm. Cable (preference) changed hands at 22s 6d. Wilson’s Cement showed a firming tendency, with buyers at 18s lOd.
