Rifle Range at West Melton Advice that the military authorities had chosen a site for a new rifle range on two properties at West Melton totalling 754 acres, and owned by the Waimakariri River Trust, was received from the Public Works Department by the trust at its meeting yesterday. The letter stated that a.new site had been selected, owing to the unsuitability of the rifle range at Redcliffs, and it was proposed to construct a range with ranges up to 600 yards. The chairman (Mr F. W. Freeman) and Messrs C. T. Aschman and H. Holland were appointed to deal with the Public Works Department’s suggestion that the land should be acquired by means of the Public Works Act by agreement.

• , City’s New Railway Station The slow progress made in the plans for a now railway station for Christchurch is mentioned in the annual Public Works statement, presented to the House of Representatives yesterday. It says:—“ Little progress has been made in connexion with the provision of the new station and yard at Christchurch. The position is th’at the main portion of the'work cannot be proceeded with until the new goods* shed has been completed, and this particular Work has been held up pending the delivery of steel, from overseas.”—P.R. For Disabled Soldiers A portion of the east stand at Lancaster. Park is to be set aside for disabled soldiers, according to a decision by the Lancaster Park Board of Control last evening. , The board acted on a suggestion in a letter from the Canterbury Rugby Union. Efforts will be made to have the arrangement working by this Saturday. • •_
